News Release December 29, 2007

January Beer Pairing Dinner: India Pale Ales and Indian Cuisine

India Pale Ale, paired with Indian food is the theme of the upcoming monthly beer dinner at The Fort George Brewery and Public House, Wednesday January 16th, 2008 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. There will be five different courses featuring traditional Indian food, and five IPA’s from a variety of West Coast breweries.

“Due to the hop shortage, West Coast IPA’s, are not going to be the same for the next couple of years, so this is one last chance to get some fresh, well-hopped, reasonably priced India Pale Ales,” said Chris Nemlowill, owner of the Fort George Brewery and Public House.

India Pale Ale, a strong variant of pale ale, was created near the end of the 18th century, during the British occupation of India. The Brits discovered brewing with high alcohol and high hops, would preserve the beer over the months-long ship ride to India. Today, IPA is one of the most popular beers among us Northwesterners, known for its floral aroma, and juicy hop flavor balanced with bitterness.

The event will include more extensive information and conversation about IPA, brewing, and Indian cuisine.

The dinner is limited to 30 people, so you’re encouraged to reserve your spot as soon as possible. All-inclusive tickets include food, beverages, and gratuity. The cost is $50 per individual. Call (503) 325-PINT, or drop by the Fort George Brewery and Public House, located at 15th and Duane Street in Astoria.
